World Orphans Day 2013 at Nairobi, Kenya

World Orphans Day is a global humanitarian observance launched by The Stars Foundation™ in 2009 to spotlight the challenges faced by orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide. Held annually on the second Monday of November, the event brings together individuals, organizations, governments, and faith-based leaders to raise awareness and support for millions of children who lack parental care. What began as a grassroots initiative has since grown into a worldwide movement that engages over 60 countries, with support from public officials, First Ladies, royalty, and celebrities.

Each year, World Orphans Day features a wide range of activities designed to engage communities and inspire action. These include lighting landmarks in purple, hosting awareness campaigns in schools and churches, organizing concerts and fundraising galas, and distributing humanitarian aid. Governments and municipalities are encouraged to issue formal proclamations recognizing the day, while local events promote themes of unity, compassion, and hope. In addition, the day often highlights partnerships with NGOs, UN-aligned campaigns, and faith organizations to broaden its international impact.

The ultimate goal of World Orphans Day is not only to bring visibility to the plight of orphans but also to advocate for systemic change and increased global support. In recent years, The Stars Foundation and its international allies have worked to achieve formal UN recognition of the day, establishing a UN World Orphans Day Promotion Committee and garnering endorsements from global dignitaries. Through its mix of grassroots outreach and international diplomacy, World Orphans Day continues to evolve as a beacon for global child advocacy, offering hope and tangible resources for children who are too often forgotten.
