UN World Orphans Day Promotion Committee

This initiative gathered influential leaders and dignitaries under the banner of the UN World Orphans Day Promotion Committee, with support from government figures like Eswatini’s Prime Minister Themba Masuku and Ethiopia’s Crown Prince Ermias. The committee worked closely with the Permanent Mission of Eswatini to draft a UN resolution calling for the official recognition of World Orphans Day, aiming to elevate the observance to a global platform.

Members included Lord David Alton—an honorary chair who publicly championed a UN‑sanctioned orphan day—and Mark Siljander, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN, who helped strategize outreach to UN leadership including Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. Other notable participants spanned royalty, religious leaders, sports figures, and media hosts, including Crown Prince Ermias of Ethiopia, NRB TV President Troy Miller, and country music ambassador Shawn Parr, highlighting the broad, multicultural engagement.

The event’s overarching goal was to build momentum toward a UN-recognized World Orphans Day by uniting public figures across faith, government, and entertainment sectors. By coordinating a formal UN proposal and rallying global support, the committee reinforced the foundation’s mission to shine a light on the plight of orphaned children—turning an awareness day into a recognized international movement.
